Course Content
This course offers a comprehensive exploration of Indian politics. In the first half. the course. traces Indian historical roots from ancient civilization through colonialism to contemporary times. with an emphasis on the pivotal developments of the 20th and 21st centuries. In the second part. it examines India's unique constitutional framework. complex political institutions. and the evolving role of political parties and ideologies. Students will engage with major societal themes. including identity. caste. and migration. as well as the influence of social and environmental movements. Topics in political economy. foreign policy. and climate change provide insight into India's current challenges and its position on the global stage. This course emphasizes a critical understanding of India's multifaceted political landscape and prepares students to analyze both historical influences and contemporary issues shaping Indian society and governance.
