Evolution of the Chinese economy during pre- and post-1949 periods; analysis of China's post-1978 reform period using basic economic tools; identification of characteristics of China's economic transition/transformation and development; structural change; urban-rural gap; labour markets; foreign trade and investment; foreign exchange and financial markets; Chinas post-WTO economic reforms and multinational enterprises; industrial policy; the role of government and the market as allocators of resources; global imbalances.
