Course Content
A survey of the Late Ottoman Empire through themes: crisis and consolidation of power; key reforms such as the Nizam-ý Cedid and Tanzimat; changing dynamics of state and society relations; tax revolts and sectarian conflicts; integration into the world economic system: ideological and cultural Western influences; Ottomanism; Constitutionalism; the Eastern Question and the 19th-century Ottoman diplomacy.
