Course Content

This is the second part of the two?semester required course in the Department of History. It regards the passage from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey as part of an underlying process of transformation. This semester concentrates on the Republican era in that process and deals with the period until the end of the 1950$. The course will discuss the early republican phase in terms of decades by highlighting the characteristics and key issues in each span. The aim of the course is providing an overall picture of the epoch in question and charting aut categories of transformation to demonstrate the changes engendered by the passage from empire to nation-state.
