Course Content

This course aims to examine critically the concept of biopolitics on everyday politics and gendered relations. In this context, its particular purpose is to familiarize students with theoretical and analytical approach to the concepts of biopolitics/biopower and gender. As a graduate level seminar, this course offers a way in which the perspective of biopolitics and issues on population, body, womanhood can be operationalized in order to shed light on the repercussions of political and economic discursive practices on the everyday gendered expectations. Throughout the classes, particular attention-ts given to Michel Foucault`s literature and secondary literature, providing the students an introductory re-reading basic sources of biopolitics and relevant discussions. Additionally, the course will be taught by a combination of assigned texts and interactive discussions. Each week we will dwell on one or two texts and explore the concepts and related arguments.
