Course Content

Overview of steady incompressible and compressible aerodynamics. Unsteady conservation equations. Potential flow and acceleration potential. Steady and unsteady flow about flat plates and thin airfoils. Unsteady Kutta condition. Simple harmonic motion of thin airfoils(Theodorsens theory). Impulsive motion. Returning wake problem (Loewys problem). Arbitrary motion and Wagner function. Gust response and Kssner function. Incompressible unsteady flows about thin wings. Static and dynamic stall. The vortex lift (Polhamus theory). Flapping-wing theory.
