Course Content
This course covers human and animal cognition. including perception. attention. memory. problem solving.
social thinking. self-awareness. innovation. communication. and emotion. Each topic is studied for both
humans and other animals. showing similarities. differences. and how these abilities may have evolved.
Students will learn key ideas. research methods. and findings from psychology. brain science. and animal
behavior. while thinking carefully about human-centered assumptions. The course includes lectures. reading
assignments. discussions. quizzes. and a term project where students collect human data and theoretically
compare the results with another species. with written and oral presentations. Guest speakers will also share
their research during the semester.
