Course Content
This course introduces students the fundamentals of chinese civilization from its earliest beginnings until the 20th century. Beginning with Spring and Autumn Period, this course aims to draw an idea of political continuity and change on Chinese lands. Political discourse, concepts and ideas developed by ancient thinkers such as Confucius, MEngzi and Xunzi etc. will also be introduced. Given as a background, the ultimate purpose of this course is to understand the modernization process began with Opium Wars (184-1961), when the East-West encounter on East Asian shores created political and socio-cultural intercourses.
