Course Content

In today` s digital World. young children` s learning experiences are increasingly shaped by interactive technologies and game-inspired digital environmentsý This course is grounded in gamification as a core instructional design approach. focusing on how game mechanics and playful digital systems can be purposefully designed to support learning in early childhood education (preschool and carýy primary). The course equips early childhood educators with advanced competencies to design and develop gamified digital learning environments by integrating game elements such as goals. levels. challenges. feedback. rewards. and narrative structures into age-appropriate educational technologies. Emphasis is placed on aligning gamification principles with children` s developmental characteristics to enhance motivation. engagement. selfregulation. collaboration. and problem-solving skills while maintaining pedagogical integrity. From a technological perspective. students will explore the design and implementation of gamified systems through digital tools and emerging technologies. including smart toys. augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) applications. sensor-based interactions. and artificial intelligence-supported adaptive learning systems. The course addresses the technical foundations of building interactive interfaces. integrating physical-digital play (e.g.. toy-tablet interactions). and applying data-driven personalization to gamified learning experiences. Students will critically examine real-world applications of gamification in early childhood contexts. such as coding education. language learning. and sustainability-focused digital games. Throughout the course. attention is given to key challenges in gamified system.
