Introduction to components of language as a cognitive system (nature. structure. and usage of language); basic concepts of linguistic competence and acquisition; phonetics (articulatory. acoustic. auditory; articulation of consonants and vowels; International Phonetic Alphabet); language and the brain (lateralization. autonomy. critical age); language evolution; semantics (lexical and phrasal semantics; compositionality; truth conditions. paraphrase. entailment. contradiction. presupposition); pragmatics (linguistic and situational context. speech acts. maxims of conversation).
