Course Content
The oceans rich in living and non-living resources (such as fish, oil, gas, and minerals) constitute primary media for international commerce and communication. After World War II, upon arrival of new actors to international system and introduction of new technologies, the traditional uses of the oceans such as fishing and shipping were transformed and a number of new uses such as seabed mining, ocean energy extraction, construction of artificial islands were introduced. This intensified and diversified interest towards the oceans brought new challenges as well as major legal achievements. The purpose of this course is to introduce the graduate students the basic concepts of ocean politics and to provide them the ability of making in depth analysis on various aspects of marine issues.
