This graduate seminar critically examines the historical foundations of philosophical and methodological approaches that shape knowledge production in social and political research. By locating philosophies and epistemologies to its social. political and economic milieu. the course explores how different epistemological traditions?from positivism to interpretivism. critical theory to poststructuralism?inform what counts as valid evidence. rigorous analysis. and persuasive argumentation in the study of power. institutions. and collective action.
