Course Content
Contemporary institutional transitions have been occurring at the urban and regional scales mainly due to profound changes in economic and socio-spatial policies. The international division of labor established after the second World War has been going through significant transformations along with major shifts in the processes of globalization. These shifts lead to the emergence of new geographies at the Global North and the Global South. Planners need to acquire new perspectives on the geographical framing of institutional transitions. Institutional structures, namely governance at the urban and regional scales, are also changing due to those transitions stemming from modern post industrial policies connected to the adoption of AI, Industry 4.0 and a commitment to net-zero climate goals. Developing a twofold framework, one regarding to modern post-industrial transitions whereas the other one regarding emerging geographies at the urban and regional levels, constitutes the major objective of the course. Taking this analytical framework as a reference, students are expected to broaden their perspectives regarding the impact of green and digital transitions on the institutional and socio-spatial shifts in the quest for planning sustainable and culturally vibrant urban ecosystems in the twenty first century.
