Course Content
This course introduces undergraduate students in the City and Regional Planning program to fundamental
concepts and methods in statistics. Designed for students with no prior background in statistics, it builds quantitative literacy step by step - from organizing and visualizing data to the core tools of statistical
inference. The course concludes with an introductory treatment of correlation, simple linear regression, and a
conceptual overview of multiple regression. Throughout, examples and exercises draw on real planning data, helping students develop the ability to apply statistical reasoning to urban and regional planning problems.
By the end of the course, students will possess the foundational quantitative skills required for evidence- based planning practice and for more advanced methods courses.
