Course Content

In this course. the early twentieth-century architectures in Europe and America alongside their material and intellectual contexts are explored. First. we investigate the concepts of ?aesthetic modernism? and ?social modernity.? Then. after setting the scene by an analysis of the social. economic. and intellectual background of what came to be known as modern architecture. each week we focus on specific cases and problems to acquaint us with different ?modernisms? as well as with the cases that deviate from the ?Modernist? norms.
